Jangha & Bada Dev

The Badagoan square is near about 70 (Seventy) km from Rourkela. An approach road is connected from Bargaon to the village Bhoipali which at a distance of 2 km Lord Jangha Dev. is being worshipped there in the village since a long time. Jangha Dev has been regarded as the perceptible God by the local inhabitants. A beautiful temple is constructed in the village. Every year in the month of Pausa people from different parts of the state especially from the Gond community come to take part in the festival of Bhoipali.

The lower part of the body i.e. from thigh to knee of Lord Jagannath of Puri is said to have worshipped here in the temple of Jangha Dev.

It is also believed that the Pandavas after completing the funeral rites of Lord Krishna thrown the remnants i.e. the “Navi Brahma” into the Ocean. The forest dwellers during that time collected that lower part of the Lord and started worshipping IT. Those people worshipping the lower part of the body later identified themselves as Gonds.

During the Mughal invasion the idol of Lord Jangha Deva was brought to the dense forest of Sundergarh. Since than the Lord Jangha Deva is being worshipped in Bhoipali village.

Besides, many more myth and stories relating to the origin of Lord Jangha Deva is heard to supplement the established fact.

Bonda Munda Marshalling Yard

It is the second largest marshalling yard in Asia. Five thousand employees are working here. It is situated 2 km away from Rourkela. The repairing work of train, wagons and engines are being done. Shunting of trains, wagons are being done here to supply to RSP, Lathikatta Refractory Plant and other industries near by Rourkela. Quarters have been allotted to employees with proper school, medical and other facilities.

Pitamahal Dam

It is one of the popular picnic spot in rourkela. It is 16km far from Vedvyas.It is so nearer to Kaluga.

Pitamahal Dam has been constructed near village Balanda of Kuarmunda Tahasil in Sundargarh District at a distance of 16 km from Vedvyas. The dam has been completed in the year 1978 across river Pitamahal, a tributary of river Sankha which meet river Koel upstream of Panposh to form river Brahmani. The total length of the dam which includes the spillway and the non-overflow section of the dam on both sides of spillway is 660.20 m. The overflow section i.e. spillway length is 45.72m. Length of masonry dam which includes non-overflow section and spillway is 115.83m. Earth dam length is 498.65m. The maximum height of the dam is 25.96 m.

There are two Head Regulators on both side of Main River. The left head regulator is located in the masonry dam and non-overflow section having circular vent of 0.11m dia. The right head regulator is located in the main earth dam and the vent size is 1.22m dia. The catchment area is 104 square KM. The Inflow design flood is 501.21 cubic meter/sec.

A reservoir project with earthen and masonry dam across the Pitamahal River in Sundergarh district intercepts a catchment area of 102 km2. The project is designed to irrigate 4,261 ha of CCA which includes 2,630 ha in Kharif season and 1,631 ha in Rabi season. The gross and live storage capacity of the project are 27.68 and 24.00 Mm3 respectively.

It is also a picnic spot having an IB under irrigation deptt.

Tensa Hill


It is considered as a mini hill station, located about 110 km from Rourkela, in Orissa. Situated at an altitude of 3780 m above sea level, this charming hill station offers majestic views of the rolling hills and dense forests.

It is one of the major towns in the state of Odisha, which comes under the district of Sundargarh. The Tensa town is a huge town while considering its area and a small town on the base of population. As per the calculations made in the year 2001, the Tensa town is having a population of 4,236. The Tensa town is having a number of historical importances in the history of the Orissa.

SAIL, the largest integrated iron and steel producer in India, carries on several mining activities centering round Tensa Mountain.

Tensa is a perfect get-away for nature lovers and group picnickers.

Panposh

Panposh is the old town area. A number of Government offices are situated here, such as:

  • PHD Office (Public Health Department) – This office has great contribution to the public. Proper arrangement of water supply is being organised in right manner without any trouble.
  • Upper Brahmani Irrigation Division – This division is mainly to tackle the problem related to water. With the help of this division water is supplying to the Rourkela Steel Plant as well as for the purpose of irrigation.
  • Divisional Forest – This division is to control the forest product as per the directive of Government.
  • Workers Education Office- It is special type of organistion imparting training to the labour selected from different industry for the proper motivational purpose for betterment of industry. Knowledge is being imparted to them to understand the industrial problems, to participate in the development of organisation and industries. In and around there are number of different industries like SAIL, Steel Refractory, Cement, Textile, Electronic and Electrical are situated.

TEMPLES

A number of temple are here in the area of Panposh having alluring construction.

Akhandal Mani Temple – Temple is situated near Brahmi river and very near to the bridge made on the river. The temple was constructed in the year 1964 by the donation of public. The beautiful gate in good looking design is found to attract the devotee. Shivaratri is being organised in decent manner every year in the time in the month of February.

Jagannath Temple – It is constructed in the year 1975. The beautiful design glorifies the place. Rath Yatra is being celebrated every year with pump and show.
